Oldham Studio School
Oldham's reputation was shaped by its success as a manufacturing town during the industrial revolution. A world renowned centre for the manufacture of cotton, by the late 19th century it had become the most productive cotton-spinning town in the world.
The emergence of an increasingly globalised service economy led to the decline of key local industries including cotton manufacturing. Responding to this Oldham Council has joined forces with partners from the across region to reinvent itself as a commercial centre based around the services industries. At the heart of the council's plans is a strategy of "regeneration through education."
The Oldham Studio Schools is key to this strategy. It will provide young people from across Oldham with the skills and experience they need to succeed in a flexible labour market. Specialising in sports and leisure, and developed in partnership with the Football Association, the school will equip its students with the transferable skills that employers constantly cite as crucial to success in the workplace.
