South Tyneside Studio

South Tyneside has a rich manufacturing history. Once the heart of British heavy industry, at one time a quarter of the world's ships were built in its shipyards.

The decline of these industries during the latter half of the 20th century brought with it new challenges for the town. In response to this South Tyneside Council has driven through radical reforms, leading the way in the development of innovative new projects to tackle local unemployment.

The South Tyneside Studio is key to this strategy. It will provide students with valuable paid work experience and will help them develop the 'soft skills' that are so crucial to success in the workplace.

With a focus on public health, the Studio will equip its students with the skills and experience they need to become engaged young people, actively involved in their local community.
