International Food and Travel Studio, Bradford
The International Food & Travel Studio is the first Studio School in the Bradford and opened in September 2012. The Studio responds to the needs of local and national employers delivering the skills based curriculum they need. The city- centre based Studio will cater for 300 students and feature state of the art resources including a unique demonstration kitchen, Apple ICT infrastructure, and a classroom converted 737 aircraft fuselage directly in front of the Studio building. Students in years 10, 11, 12 and 13 will be able to join the Studio in September 2013.
The International Food and Travel Studio teaches the national curriculum and offers the same key academic qualifications as traditional schools. The curriculum will deliver a range of qualifications ranging from the traditional GCSE and A levels to vocational qualifications delivered principally through Enterprise Projects in the Studio and with employers. The International Food and Travel Studio works with local and national hotel chains, restaurants, café bars and food logistics companies as well as major travel employers in the city. This strong relationship between education and employment aims to respond to the current unemployment situation facing young people today. Currently in Bradford there are over 1,300 young people aged between 16 and 18 who are not in education, employment or training. The enterprising element of the Studio School also responds to one of the key priorities for Bradford’s Economic Strategy – building entrepreneurship and innovation.
